• Binding is secure, with stitching visible at some openings.

Publisher's black cloth boards, with textured embossing and blind stamped frame and decoration.  Unstated third edition of this novel about slavery, with illustrations by John H. Manning.  Condition is Very Good Minus, with wear to the board edges and chipped spine ends.      

This epistolary novel about slavery, set in Virginia, was first published in 1853 as Cousin Franck's Household by Pocahontas.  In 1863 the novel was re-issued with the title Ruth's Sacrifice, published in Boston by Charles H. Pearson and Graves & Young.  The 1864 imprint has the 1863 copyright.
