Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition, with a GOOD DJ under Mylar.

• Red cloth covers are mostly clean, with gilt text and black label on spine.  Boards show some edgewear.  Corners are sharp. 
• Spine has gilt text on black label and is bright with softened, frayed ends.  See photos.  
• Binding is strong.  
• Pastedowns and feps have some light staining at back cover. 
• Illustrations, black and white photographs, are bright and clear. 
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges are foxed at head. 
• DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
• DJ has some edgewear, chipped corners, chipping and closed tears along head edge, bumping and chipping along foot edge, some staining to back, a 1.5" closed tear at back, darkening of spine, fading of text on spine.  See photos.

Henry L. Stimson (1867-1950), Manhattan born, educated at Phillips Academy in Andover Massachusetts, spent his career in law and in public service.  He served in several administrations, including as Secretary of War from 1940-1945. 

Stimson's life centered on the city, and yet he had a great love of the outdoors.  In this volume, the author recounts episodes of holiday and adventure,  creating a memoir of his life in the natural world, both wilderness and countryside.  Illustrated with photographs.
