Charles Alphonse Dufresnoy (1611-1665) composed his didactic poem De arte graphica during his extensive stay in Rome in the 1630s and 1640s. It first circulated in manuscript, but was not printed until after his death. The translation is by Roger de Piles (1635-1709), a friend of Dufresnoy. Two editions appeared in 1668: this parallel text edition, and a printing of just the Latin text.
Contents: Original Latin verse of "De arte graphica" and the French translation on facing pages (p. 2-57). "Remarques sur l'art de peinture de Charles Alfonse Du Fresnoy"-- p. 59-158. "Sentimens de Charles Alphonse Du Fresnoy sur les ouvrages des principaux & des meilleurs peintres des derniers siecles"-- p. 159-167.
The collation of the preliminary leaves seems to vary from copy to copy; this copy contains the title-page, a two-leaf dedication to Colbert, a two-leaf preface to the reader, and a contents leaf.
