- Boards show some wear, heavy scuffing, edgewear. Corners are bumped, worn, with exposed board. See photos.
- Spine is worn, shows traces of gilt compartment ruling, no label or title, with softened, chipped and worn ends. See photos.
- Binding is largely intact, with a few pages out of alignment, and fep and map loose at front of volume. See photos.
- Pastedowns and feps have some moderate foxing, staining, owner's marks.
- Foldout map, 9 panels, is present and complete, with closed tears at fold lines, some staining, loose from binding. See photos.
- Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits moderate foxing, some smudges, light edgewear, a couple closed tears at edges.
- Inside pages are generally free of writing and intentional marks; a couple of marginal notes.

First Edition. Original full calf boards, spine missing leather label. Two titles bound together, same author, same 1834 imprint. Original hand colored 9-panel foldout map, published by A. Finley, is present and complete. Condition is overall Good+, with wear to the leather, staining and foxing throughout, loose front pages. VERY SCARCE with the map present.
This two-part volume, comprising gazetteer and history of the State of New Jersey, was written by Thomas F. Gordon (1787-1860). Gordon's intent was to present to the reading public "a full and correct portraiture of the State in the year 1833." (Advertisement) Densely printed pages are filled with information about the state, its municipalities, and avenues of communication. The hand colored fold-out map, dated 1834, was engraved by J.H. Young and published by A. Finley.
Inscribed on the end paper of each part, "Woodnutt Petit's Book bot in 1834." "Price $3.50" Woodnutt Petit appears in excerpts from the Salem Messenger and Public Advertiser (1823-1826), published in Salem, Gloucester County, New Jersey.
