Hans Augusto Rey (1898-1977) and Margret Rey (1906-1996) created Curious George in 1939, before fleeing occupied Paris in 1940. They settled in New York City, where they wrote a series of children's books relaying the adventures and escapades of George the monkey. This title, the seventh in the series, was written in conjunction with the Children's Hospital Medical Center, Boston.
The Reys inscribed this copy to Dr. George Packer Berry (1898-1986) with thanks and best wishes. Berry, an American physician and medical educator, served as dean of Harvard Medical School from 1949 to 1965. He is credited with modernizing the medical education program there, and for building up the associated hospitals and medical institutions in Boston, including the Children's Hospital.
