This adventure novel by Jules Verne (1828-1905) is the fortieth title of Les Voyages Extraordinaires. It takes the form of a treasure hunt where the clues arrive in bits and pieces, leading seaman Pierre Antifer of Saint Malo on a complicated route from Tunisia through northern Europe and back to the Mediterranean. The illustrations are by George Roux (1853-1929), well-known for his collaboration with Verne.
