First edition.  Two parts in one volume.  The first book printed and published by the Canterbury Shakers.  Original full calf binding with gilt title on black label at spine.  Boards and text block edges stippled.  Some staining to end papers and title page, some separation at front cover.  Text block shows scattered foxing and some marginalia, but is generally bright.  The book was withdrawn from circulation after it was published, making this first edition rather scarce.  Condition is overall Very Good.

This text is tied to the Shaker "Era of Manifestations," a period spanning the 1840s characterized by intense spiritualism, spirit communication, visions, and the creation of sacred texts and drawings.  Written by Philemon Stewart (1804-1875), a prominent member of the Shaker community who signed himself "Inspired Writer."  Stewart claimed he received visions and messages directly from God between 1842 and 1843, which he was instructed to transcribe as a warning and a guide for humanity.

Calf binding matches another copy that was bound by the Harvard Shakers.
