Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD- condition.
- Blue cloth covers have gilt titles and decoration, beveled edges.
- Boards show some wear, smudges, staining, bumping, scuffing, edgewear. Corners are bumped, frayed, with exposed board. See photos.
- Spine has gilt text dimmed and is sunned, with signs of repair at head and foot. See photos.
- Binding is largely secure; spine is rebacked with original backstrip laid down, title page is loose. See photos.
- New end papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear.
- Frontispiece, heliogravure portrait, is present and has intact tissue guard.
- Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits some marginal toning, a few marks, a small chip at edge of half-title page.
- Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

A generally Very Good copy of this original edition of the memoirs of Christian von Ompteda. Publisher's dark blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration to front cover, gilt titles to spine, beveled edges. Some wear to the board edges, and signs of repair at the spine; while age-toned, the interior is unmarked and free of foxing. An Index follows the text, with 8pp publisher's booklist at rear.
Christian Friedrich Wilhelm von Ompteda (1765–1815) was a German army officer who served in the Hanoverian and British armies and fought in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, dying at the Battle of Waterloo. His grandnephew, Baron Louis von Ompteda, edited the memoirs, placing them in their historical context.
