• Pastedowns and feps have some staining, pencil marks at front.

A very good copy of this scarce volume which records a chapter of Mormon history.  Tyler wrote a detailed narrative of this very interesting and memorable march from Council Bluffs, Iowa to San Diego, California by the only religious based unit ever of the United States military.  While the 1900+ mile trek endured plenty of hardship, the only "warfare" was the infamous "Battle of the Bulls", a fight against a herd of wild cattle near the San Pedro river in present day Arizona.  Many members of the battalion stayed west and served in various functions both within the military and in civilian life. 

Included are the roster of soldiers who were members of the battalion and the text of the  Mormon Battalion Song by Thomas Morris.
