Beautifully illustrated with over 90 full colored plates along with 19 fold-out color maps. Missing the six additional maps from back pocket. Includes b/w illustrations throughout. Includes information on ocean steamers, baggage, passports, postal rates, hotel accommodations, diplomatic service and more. Includes 38 pages of ads at end, with additional ads on each pastedown. Handsome period travel-related ads include full page illustrations of destinations and steamships. 361 pages. 4.25" by 6.5".

Hardback  is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Red buckram covers feature belt loop and flap closer for wrap around piece with gilt design and lettering to the rear and show commensurate wear though overall have retained their integrity. Hinges of wrap are floppy.
  • Boards show wear to the edges, most notably to the top edge of the rear board where there is a subtle indentation. 
  • Corners are sharp with some fraying. 
  • Spine has lightly worn and faded gilt lettering and border with the lower portion of the border being darkened and partially obscured; ends are crushed with she shoulder showing light wear. 
  • Binding is fragile yet still intact, with definite play. 
  • Hinges are significantly cracked with exposed webbing. 
  • Gutters are lightly cracked to the following areas: pages 208/209 along the upper 2" portion and later on pages 256/257. 
  • Front pastedown bears what appears to be the dry residue of an adhesive. Please see photos. 
  • The six maps listed as included in the rear pocket are missing though the rest are included and fully intact. 
  • Map at page 63 exhibits seam splits and is detached from 
  • Map at page 157 shows a .25 x 1.75 tear where a sliver of map adhered to facing folded paper. Please see photos.
  • Map at page 241 shows closed tears. Please see photos.
  • All 19 maps are present, with light to moderate toning. Not all maps were opened to minimize handling. Maps may exhibit other minor issues.
  • Overall the interior exhibits expected gentle age toning, with with occasional marks, most notably some marginal foxing above maps on facing pages. Please see photos. 
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • All edges gilt.
  • Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.
