Hardback set is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Custom full calf covers are mostly clean, with gilt borders and decoration.  Stamped "Brentano's" inside front cover.  See photos.  
  • Boards show some wear at shoulders, a little edgewear.  Corners are sharp.  
  • Spines have raised bands, gilt text and decoration, and are bright with firm ends.  Volumes 9 and 10 have chips at head end.  Please see photos for details of condition.
  • Bindings are strong. 
  • Custom end papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear.
  • Feps have some light foxing. 
  • Frontispiece is present in each volume and has intact tissue guard.
  • Illustrations are bright and clear, plates have marginal age-toning, lightly foxed tissue guards.
  • Interiors are gently age-toned, with scattered foxing. 
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. 
  • Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges, gilt along head.
