The Time Revolution
by Henry J. Levy
Very scarce. Introduction by American jazz pianist Stan Kenton. Includes explanations of unconventional time signatures and how to play and count unconventional meters. Majority of book is practice exercises, consisting of melody lines featuring time sigs such as 5/4, 10/8, 7/4, 14/8, 11/4 and so on. 71 pages. 9" by 12".
From the foreword:
"The purpose of this book is to lay a foundation for the student who is interested in exploring rhythmic possibilities. The material is designed to expose the new direction, and experience the feeling derived from an exotic meter. Its aim is to expand our present musical habits.
Perhaps, in the near future, more and more of this rhythmic change will become an integral part of our music. The staunchest critics have posed the question, "Will it swing?". The answer is, "Yes, as soon as the instrumentalists learn to relax with it, and the audience listens to, and feels, its message."
