The facsimile manuscript of a cute story about a little mouse who struggles to keep her little house tidy and clean. Potter's illustrations make her story come alive with a colorful spontaneity. This book marks the end of a two-books-a-year agreement with Warnes, her publishing company. While scholars find the book's depiction of insects its greatest attraction, having an almost "nightmarish" quality, her characters were modeled into porcelain figurines by Beswick Pottery starting in 1948.

Book is a facsimile copy from a handwritten notebook, with lined pages. Features Beatrix Potter's original illustrations, tipped in on pages facing text. Features printed essays by Margaret Lane and Joyce Irene Whalley at conclusion.

Original manuscript from the collection of Leslie Linder.
