Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Dark brown covers show commensurate wear and dirt.  Gilt text is clear and bright, blind tooled cover borders.  
  • Boards show some wear, with bumps, marks, and edgewear.  Corners are bumped and frayed, with exposed board.  
  • Spine has gilt text and is faded, with crushed and frayed ends.
  • Binding is secure.  
  • Ex libris book inscribed by owner on front pastedown.
  • Endpapers and feps have some light staining, with bookseller marks in pencil at rear.  Please see photographs for details of condition.  
  • Frontispiece is present.   
  • Interior is gently age-toned.  Acid stain darkens pages 204-205.  Please see photograph.  
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. 
  • Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges, with gilt along head.

PROVENANCE: Alverda V. Sipple, who inscribed the inside cover with her name and address, was enrolled as a student at the University of Pennsylvania during the 1912-1913 academic year.
