THE JUNGLE, illustrated SIGNED Upton Sinclair, Fletcher Martin Limited Number Ed

Product Description

The Jungle

by Upton Sinclair

illustrations by Fletcher Martin

This sensational novel helped Upton Beall Sinclair, Jr. (1878-1968) garner recognition, even if not favorable at first. He is known for working seven weeks undercover in the meat packing plants in Chicago. Although his intent was to portray the harsh conditions and exploited lives of immigrants, The Jungle inspired public outcry for better health and sanitary regulations in the U.S. meat industry. 334 pages. 7.5 x 11 inches.

Originally printed in 1906, this 1965 printing includes a NEW PREFACE by the author, and is SIGNED by both Sinclair and artist Fletcher Martin (1904-1979) whose colorful images add ambiance and intensity to this classic.

This is copy #786 of 1500 printed for the Members of The Limited Editions Club, published by The Garamond Press, Baltimore, MD. 1965
