A thorough study on the various species of birds in the Long Island region. Accurate and elaborately written, Giraud's work offers a complete classification, by species, of the different sorts of birds to be found in Long Island's wildlife, together with a captioned line drawing describing the anatomy of the bird of prey and of the duck, and an index of Latin and English names. Each description renders in details the physical appearance of the species, as well as its habits, and the times of the year and precise places and areas they may be found. 397 pages. 5.75 x 9 inches.

Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Volume is in overall very good condition with mild wear from fading and rubbing on covers and toning inside.
  • Three-quarter leatherbound.
  • Covers show nice colored marble decoration with stylized lines in gilt along brown leather corners and spinepiece.
  • Boards show some light to moderate fading along edges, and to leather.
  • Corners are rubbed with exposed boards.
  • Spine has five raised bands and features text and lines in gilt.
  • Spine is rubbed at ends and along shoulders.
  • Interior displays mild overall toning with scattered foxing, mostly marginal.
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. 
  • Page 175 has residue from cutting along fore edge, which also protrudes from textblock. (See photos)
  • Text block edges are stippled red, and show some toning to gutter at head, as well as small stains from residue. (See photos)
  • Front pastedown displays residue from torn sticker, and back pastedown features nice black & white illustration.
  • Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.
