Tom Cunliffe is a well-known British writer and sailing enthusiast who's Bristol Channel Pilot cutter Hirta is familiar to TV viewers in the UK. The first volume of Pilots concentrated on the stories of American and British schooners. Volume 2 enters what for many will be a less familiar world, that of the European pilot schooners, the remarkable pilot brigs of the Hooghly, and the small, undecked craft of many of the less famous, but equally important, services.
