Product Description

Magic and Mystery in Tibet

by Alexandria David-Neal

First American Edition. Available first in Europe in German, French and Spanish, this is the very scarce first American edition. A remarkable undertaking that follows the author's 14 year journey throughout Tibet where she becomes the first European woman to have been honored with the rank of a Lama. In this volume she reveals how Tibetan mystics acquire the ability to live naked in frigid temperatures by generating a protective body heat similar to that produced by the bee, how they can run great distances without food, rest or drink and more. Includes 15 B&W photographic reproductions. 320 pages. 6" by 9".

While the dust jacket, in full, is not present there is a remnant of the dust jacket spine and the front and back return.

First Edition published by Claude Kendall. New York, NY. 1932.

Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • The black cloth boards have been maintained in excellent condition with no appreciable signs of age or wear other than light wear to the corners.
  • The spine features gilt lettering and design detail, intact and mildly dulled with age though the luster remains.
  • In addition to the boards, the spine too has been maintained with no appreciable flaws other than light bumping to the head and tail with subtle fraying.
  • The binding is pliant though firm.
  • Consistent with the careful maintenance of the rest of the book, the textblock is firmly bound, exhibiting light play, with the interior showing vibrant type and illustrations on lightly age toned leafs.
  • The ffep bears writing in red ink partially covered beneath an ex libris plate.
  • No writing, highlighting, underlining or other intentional marks. Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.
