66 pages. 6.5 x 8 inches
A very good copy of this story for young readers, based on the life of a real ship's cat, and illustrated with ink drawings that capture Joey's adventures. First edition, in the publisher's dust jacket. A few pages show a sprinkle of foxing; overall bright and very readable.
The author, Alan Villiers (1903-1982), was an Australian writer, adventurer and mariner. Villiers sailed traditionally rigged vessels, the Joseph Conrad among them, and captained sailing ships for film. Illustrations are by Victor J. Dowling (1906-1970s?), a New York City artist known primarily for his comic book art in the 1930s-1950s.
