The Monument commemorating the heroes of the Civil War in Manchester is one of the great historical tributes. This volume is a detailed narration of the ceremony which took place at the dedication of the monument, together with a description of the monument itself and an account of the proceedings of the ceremony. The laying of the corner-stone is also narrated, as well as the report of the building committee. This is a valuable piece of Americana commemorating one of the key conflicts in United States history.

The Manchester Civil War Monument was dedicated in 1877 and is a bronze statue of a Union soldier standing on a granite base. The city of Manchester took an active part in the Civil War, dispatching more than 200 men in various Massachusetts units.
