One of many Western adventure novels by the author of the Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cities of the Plain is the concluding volume of the Border trilogy. A dark elegy of the American frontier, it brings to life the very special existence of New Mexico ranchers. Filled with trail drives, horse auctions and campfire stories, it features the adventures of two ranch hands who know their way of life is coming to an end, an end which comes even sooner than they expected, when one romance triggers a chain of violent, unstoppable events that fill the reader with compassion for the characters, and awe before the ruthless decree of destiny.

Cormac McCarthy (b.1933) is an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. He is the author of ten novels spanning the Southern Gothic, Western, and post-apocalyptic genre.
