1897 CALAMUS: LETTERS TO PETER DOYLE Walt Whitman Bucke 1st Edition GLBT Romance

Product Description

Calamus: A Series of Letters Written During the Years 1868-1880 by Walt Whitman to a Young Friend (Peter Doyle)

by Walt Whitman

edited by Richard Maurice Bucke, M.D., One of Whitman's Literary Executors

Walt Whitman (1819-1892) was an American poet, essayist and journalist who is often ranked as his country's most influential poet. For many years he was openly involved with a younger man Peter Doyle (1843-1907). After Whitman passed, Doyle permitted his correspondence with the famous American poet to be published, along with a personal interview about their remarkable relationship. Peter Doyle is generally considered to have been a significant muse for quite a bit of Whitman's writing. This is their personal correspondence. 173 pages. 5.25 x 7.25 inches.

Presumed First Edition published by Laurens Maynard, Boston. 1897
